The name Saudi Arabia most likely evokes completely different associations. One of the most common will be tied to the seemingly endless desert and heat, as suggested by the photo above. Other prevalent associations will be with its vast oil and gas reserves.
But there is much more to Saudi Arabia – in particular, it is an extremely rewarding travel destination, offering incredibly beautiful landscapes and plenty of culture, delights and attractions, in addition to traditional and ultra-modern cities.

riyadh
If you want to get a first impression of modern Saudi Arabia, but also of its history and culture, you can do so in Riyadh. Two or three days should be the minimum to explore the city – but you are also welcome to plan more days. On the following pages I will briefly present what I consider to be the essential information about the city and its most important sights. Enjoy browsing through.
jeddah
The port city on the Red Sea. It needs to fear no comparison with other Arab metropolises, such as Beirut, Cairo, Casablanca. Also known as the “Gateway to Mecca” or the “Bride of the Red Sea,” the metropolis has for centuries been a gateway for pilgrims traveling to Mecca and Medina, and a hub for international trade routes between the Indian Ocean and the Mediterranean. With more than four million inhabitants in its district, it is the most cosmopolitan and “open” city in the country, due in no small part to its centuries-old history.
