Aquarium, beaches and sports in Jeddah

Fakieh Aquarium

Fakieh Aquarium, located on the northern Corniche, showcases the wonders of the underwater world of the Red Sea and over 200 species of aquatic animals that come from oceans and seas from around the world. It is so far the only aquarium in Saudi Arabia open to the public and one of the tourist attractions in Jeddah.

Especially if you are visiting the city with children this is a worthwhile destination. Dolphin and sea lion shows are also organized here every day.

Open: Sat to Thu 12:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m.; Friday 01:30 p.m. – 12:00 am.
Tickets: Aquarium: SAR 55 – under 2 years free; Dolphin show : SAR 70 – under 2 years free

Beaches

Some of the beaches are relatively far away from the city.  They are mainly frequented by Saudi families looking to cool off by the sea, especially on weekends. Since you probably do not want to travel to Jeddah for a bathing vacation, especially since the big hotels all have swimming pools, this general information should suffice.

Among the well-known beach resorts are – without claiming to be complete:

Al Murjan Beach, etwa in Höhe des Flughafens und der Red Sea Mall,

Al-Saif Beach im Süden der Stadt

Alexandria Beach in der Obhur Bay nördlich des Flughafens

Silver Sands Beach nördlich von Sharm Obhur

Al Nakhil Beach in Sharm Obhur

Durrat Al Arus Beach in der gleichnamigen Gemeinde nördlich von Jeddah

Thuwal Beach

Obhur Beaches in der Obhur Bay nördlich des Flughafens

Sports

King Abdullah Sports City, which is also popularly called Al-Jawharah, meaning “The Jewel” because of its outer roof design, is a new multi-purpose stadium launched in 2014. Its stadium is used mostly for football, reaching a full capacity of about 62,000 spectators. It is the largest stadium in Jeddah, and the second largest in Saudi Arabia. The stadium is located in the north of Jeddah, just north of the International Airport, about 15 km (9 mi) inland from the Corniche, 20 km (12.5 mi) from the Red Sea Mall and 40 km (25 mi) from Al Balad old town.
