A visit to the traditional bazaar is a ‘must’ when you’re in Taif. The best time to go is in the early evening, when all the illuminated shops and stalls create a magical atmosphere. You can easily explore the market area from the Al Hazm Gate (Bab Al Hazm) heading south. The three-arched Bab Alrea is the western gate on Baladiah Street, near the fish market. About 200 metres south of this, the remains of the historic city wall of the old town of Taif can still be seen. Bab Abbas is the southeastern city gate
Depending on the type of goods on offer, the souk is divided into several shopping streets, such as Souk al Attarin (spice souk), Souk al-Qattanin (cotton market) and Souk al Lahhamin (butchers’ market). Local honeys, dates, dried fruit, Saudi coffee and handcrafted items make popular souvenirs.
