Taif is a city that stands somewhat in the shadow of its better-known neighbours Jeddah and Mecca. However, Taif has its own traditional and modern charm, which is increasingly attracting foreign tourists. Travelling to Taif is not just an ordinary trip, but an emotional experience that should not be missed. In many ways, Taif is a welcome change from the big cities of Saudi Arabia, which are vibrant and full of life. Perhaps it’s the altitude: in any case, life here is more relaxed. Taif and its surroundings are the perfect place to unwind and reconnect with nature.
Taif is both a City and a Governorate (administrative district) of the same name in the Province of Mecca. The name is often spelled: Ta’if.
The city lies at an altitude of around 1,700 metres on a plain bordered to the west by the Hejaz Mountains, which merge into the more southerly Sarawat Mountains in this region.
You will find detailed maps and information about the best sights, rose farms and everything you should know in my ebook SAUDI ARABIA JEDDAH TAIF AL BAHAH, available on Aplle books and Amazon.
accommodation
All hotel categories are available. Many of the world’s hotel chains are represented, with 4 and 5 star categories being numerous. There are majestic, sometimes bombastic hotels with large parks as well as modern furnished houses. Some of the hotels were built at the beginning of the city’s modernisation phase in the 1970s and 1980s; the majority of the hotels are from recent years and thus reflect the thrust that this city is experiencing in the present.
Food & Drink
Outside the malls, the city also offers an incredible variety of gastronomic stops. In addition to the simpler coffee shops, which can be found literally on every street corner with the exception of the pure and genteel residential quarters, all of the world’s famous coffee brands are located in the city centre.
