Tabuk City – Hejaz Railway Museum

the Hejaz Railway Line – it’s now been a long, long time ...

North of the pedestrian zone is the small but worthwhile museum dedicated to the historic Hejaz Railway Line. Although the museum is not too distant, it is not easily accessible on foot from Al Amir Fahd ibn Sultan Rd because both places are cut off by the King Abdulaziz Road, the urban motorway alongside which the museum is located. Housed on the site of the original railway station, the museum not only has plenty to offer railway enthusiasts, but also allows you to immerse yourself in historical events that are not solely associated with the famous ‘Lawrence of Arabia’. he actual museum consists of a building modelled on the former railway station, made of ochre-coloured, hewn stones, which is probably little more than 300 m2 in size. In addition to illustrated wall panels on the history and route of the Hejaz Railway, it houses the main attraction, a restored small black steam locomotive and a restored passenger carriage. The driver’s cab and the carriage are accessible and give a vivid impression of the adventure of a train journey through vast desert areas. Not only the heat from the usual outside temperatures but also the locomotive’s steam boiler must have really ‘baked’ the engine driver.
