Tabuk City – Prophet’s (Al Tawbah) Mosque

its origin one of the oldest in the world

The Al Tawbah Mosque (Masjid) is located only about 250 metres east of the castle. To get there, just walk along the pedestrian zone until you reach a square with candelabra lanterns, where young people like to play football at sunset, and turn north there. The mosque is in its origin one of the oldest in the world. According to traditional accounts, it was here that the Prophet Mohammed set up camp and prayed when he arrived with a large army in 630 AD to fight the Byzantines in the Battle of Tabuk. It was restored in 1652 AD and completely renovated in the last century by order of the late King Faisal ibn Abdulaziz. It has only one minaret and is rather unadorned inside.
