The inhabitants of the Greater Dammam Area are a mixture of different ethnicities and nationalities. This mixture of peoples has greatly influenced the traditional cuisine of the DMA.
The cuisine is generally very “meat-heavy” and rather “hearty“. Vegetable side dishes regularly include (only) broccoli, cauliflower, tomatoes, onions, and (lots of) hot peppers. Grilled meats such as shawarma, kofta, and kebabs are available in most restaurants and eateries.
Filipino fast-food chains and American chains are common in the DMA, as are more upscale chains. Due to the large number of foreign workers in the city, Indian, Filipino, Chinese, Indonesian, Pakistani, and other Asian dishes are also popular. European cuisine, such as Italian and French, is also available in the DMA agglomeration. In addition, there are local fast-food chains that serve mainly fried chicken.
Food Trucks have become popular, too … but not all of them are appealing.
