Geographically, the region is divided into two sectors, named Sarat (also known as Sarah) and Tihāmah, by the huge ridge of the Sarawat Mountains. The mountainous area of Sarat lies between 1,500 and almost 2,500 m above sea level in the eastern part of the province. Tihāmah is the relatively flat, approximately 300 km long strip of land along the coast of the Red Sea. Al Bahah Province is geographically the smallest region in the Kingdom. It comprises the highest elevation on Mount Uthreb, 2,447 m above sea level, south-east of Baljurashi. The mountainous region is largely forested, but also offers areas for the cultivation of agricultural produce. The relative abundance of natural resources compared to the rest of the Kingdom is due to fertile soils, abundant groundwater and many valleys that protect the cultivation of produce, making the province one of the most important agricultural regions. The province’s fruit supply changes with the seasons. Pomegranates are one of the most widely cultivated fruits. The banana farms of Dhee Ayn are known for the cultivation of the Al Masqawi banana variety within the village at around 2,000 metres above sea level.
