Of course, there are also “tire-killing” excursions into the unspoilt, and at times very rugged, landscape – but fortunately such mishaps are rather rare. So, don’t worry!
Al Ula offers more than just great scenery and history. I will present this realm to you in detail later. Its uniqueness is also used by the Saudi state to combine it with tourist activities and events almost all year round, which go beyond a pure sightseeing and hiking programme. Sports activities, wellness, music performances and art exhibitions, for example, are just as much a part of the programme as the annual Balloon Flying Festival. Festivals have become an integral part of cultural life in Al Ula.
In addition to a “classic” visitor programme, Al Ula offers for those for whom this is not “enough”, various adventure activities with horses, camels or bicycles or simply new hiking trails.
Stargazing is becoming an increasingly popular hobby in Saudi Arabia. The nights are usually clear, the air is dry and pollution is fortunately limited.
You can already imagine the impressive feeling when you step out onto the terrace of your tent or bungalow at the resorts outside Al Ula in the evening and take in the starry sky.
This experience becomes even more intense and impressive when you drive (with a tour operator) to a Gharameel rock formation, where you can discover the Milky Way with the naked eye, free from light pollution.
The ambience of this somehow extra-terrestrial landscape undoubtedly awakens the visitor’s senses in all its facets. So what could be more natural than to experience and intensify this experience?
In Al Ula, you have many ways to nurture and enhance your physical and mental well-being. You will find numerous courses, programmes and activities to book.
For example, the Five Senses Sanctuary is the name of a programme offering yoga, meditation, sound healing, lectures, fitness, cooking classes and much more with the aim of sharpening your senses, enhancing your “self” and stimulating your well-being.
“Silent hiking” away from all noise in the middle of the quiet desert landscape is offered, as is ecological gardening. Other activities of a similar nature are offered as part of the annual Wellness Festival.
