Tabuk offers a wide range of hiking opportunities. Hike through dramatic rock formations, vast deserts and, in the winter months, even snow-capped peaks. However, there are currently very few marked hiking trails. It is best to book a tour guide. A hike in the Hisma Desert can be a special attraction, as it combines walking in sandy terrain with exploring rocky sections of the so-called Al Zaytah Mountains. The result of an erosion process that has gnawed away at the sandstone formations for millions of years, experiencing this ‘gentle’ form of hiking is simply magnificent. There is no ‘one‘ (recommended) hiking trail here, but rather tours through a fantastic landscape that is only gradually being mapped. However, do not underestimate the fact that walking in soft sand can quickly tire you out, especially in the prevailing heat.
Mountain hiking in the Jabal Al Lawz area places special demands on your fitness and experience.
A hike through the Tayeb Al Ism wadi gorge is one of the most impressive outdoor experiences in Tabuk. This hiking trail is located near the Gulf of Aqaba and starts directly at the sea in a gorge surrounded by high cliffs. However, due to extensive construction work related to the NEOM mega-project, the entire coastal section may be inaccessible for an extended period of time.
Tabuk’s waters are clear and it still exists – a fantastic, almost untouched underwater world with a variety of coral reefs and numerous fish species, from clownfish, turtles and stingrays to sailfish and numerous shark species. And then there are the wrecks… No wonder, then, that Tabuk is increasingly becoming a hotspot for divers and snorkelers.
Or simply sitting on one of the numerous beaches watching the sun set… My heart, what more could you wish for?
