Dammam – Souq Al Hob & Parks

the 'love market'

There is hardly a better way to feel the pulse of an Arab city than to visit its souq (bazaar). The Al Hob Souq is no different. Located in the square between 18th Street, 11th Street, King Abdulaziz St. and King Khaled St., the market is in the heart of the city. With its numerous jewellery stores, it is also known by locals as, “Love Market”. It is said that many couples come there to choose gifts for their wedding or anniversary in the glittering shop windows.

The parks found in Saudi cities play a very important role in the lives of the residents. They are partly the “green lungs” of the densely built-up residential and commercial areas. Above all, however, they are meeting places for families and friends to picnic together or simply get together in the evening hours when temperatures become more pleasant. For children, this provides the long-awaited time to play outdoors. For this reason, one should not necessarily expect lush flowerbeds and exotic trees and shrubs in the parks. Life Park, King Fahd Park, Muraikabat Mountain Park, Modon Lake Park may be worthwhile mentioning.
