The Bajdah Game Reserve in Tabuk Province

a unique and unforgettable desert experience

There are two things that make ‘Bajdah’ special. First, I should mention that it is not only the name of the hamlet mentioned above, but also serves as the name for a large area that begins directly east of the road there.

As already noted in the section on worthwhile destinations, the unique and unforgettable desert experience continues here. The breathtaking landscape, the ancient rugged rock formations, the rust-brown sand and, last but not least, the tranquil atmosphere create a feeling of bliss that you should soak up deeply so that the memory of it never leaves your mind. Whether you are a nature lover, a photographer or simply want to enjoy this kind of nature, Bajdah has something to offer everyone. Bajdah is an impressive area for observing gazelles and oryx, for example. And it appears that the reintroduced animals are reproducing. The vision of the ‘Royal Reserve Council’ is to expand a re-introduction programme and reintroduce predators such as caracals, Arabian lynxes and, looking far into the future, perhaps even the Arabian cheetah to the Bajdah Wildlife Reserve.

A gorgeous part of this area is Pharaoh’s Cave – or, as it is also called, the Hidden Garden. Its access path can be recognised by a huge green plant tapestry that, thanks to sufficient irrigation, reaches almost to the ground from a rocky outcrop. Passing this green wonder in the middle of the desert, you will then come to a narrow passage between mighty rocks, provided you don’t get stuck with your car in the soft sand beforehand. The sand is deep, so this route is only suitable for experienced off-road drivers. Please also note: This is the only place in Bajdah where you are allowed to leave your vehicle. At some point, the gorge becomes so narrow that you won’t be able to continue in your SUV anyway. From there, things get particularly interesting. This is where the ‘Secret Garden‘ begins – probably so named because it is home to a few green bushes and grasses and because it is hidden between huge rock formations.
